TIPS TO AVOID CARD FRAUD

Scammers are prevalent on Facebook, DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING DIRECTLY THROUGH FACEBOOK! If you see something you would like to purchase, close out of Facebook and go to the item’s website, look for the lock in the URL box at the top of the page to ensure it is a secure site. You can also do an internet search for that website with the words “review, scam or complaints” and read reviews.

Scammers pretend to be other entities through Caller ID, Emails and Texts. They can manipulate their info to look like they are someone else. DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFO OR SEND ANY MONEY TO AN UNEXPECTED CALLER OR REQUEST FROM ANYONE YOU DON’T KNOW!

HANG UP ON ALL ROBO CALLS! Do not press 1 to speak to a person or be taken off the call list, this just leads to more calls.

DON’T FALL FOR THE FREE TRIAL OFFERS! Paying shipping with your card WILL ALWAYS lead to unexpected charges in the near future. They also sell your card info to other scammers who WILL also start charging your card

DO NOT USE GOOGLE OR ANOTHER SEARCH ENGINE FOR PHONE # LOOKUPS WHEN PAYING YOUR BILLS! Always use the bill you receive in the mail or the actual phone book to get the phone #. Fake phone #’s are online with scammers eagerly waiting on the other end to collect your “utility/cable/credit card/etc… payments”.

TALK TO SOMEONE! Scammers will threaten you and rush you into decisions. Slow down, check out the story, do an online search, consult an expert or law enforcement, or just tell your friendly credit union employee. We are here to help you make the correct decision.

DO NOT EVER SEND ANYONE CASH OR GIFT CARDS WITH THE PROMISE OF MORE MONEY SENT BACK TO YOU! Do not agree to cash a check for someone you don’t know or trust.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, DO NOT FALL FOR WINNING ANYTHING! You are not related to a Prince in a foreign country, and you didn’t win a million $’s either. If IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT’S A SCAM!
